Summer Route – 2.25 miles
The way is over Hengistbury Head for panoramic views of the coast and Christchurch Harbour. On the far side the path is along a beach, lined with coveted beach huts, where a ferry carries walkers to Mudeford.
Winter Route – 5 miles
This route, open all year but the only option in winter, follows a route to Wick on the River Stour where there is a ferry and a nearby bridge. The way is then a mainly waterside walk through Christchurch, passing close to its landmark priory church, to cross Stanpit Marsh. This alternative route, although necessitated by the winter closure of Mudeford Ferry, is a rewarding and enjoyable diversion.
